Fun Fact:
During the Classical period, the image of Hecate began to shift. She became the goddess of magic, witchcraft, and spirit communication. In Euripides’ tragedy Medea, she appears as a patroness of witches and magical rites. In later eras—especially the Hellenistic and Roman periods—her role became even more entwined with necromancy and ritual magic.
In the Papyri Graecae Magicae, a collection of magical texts from Roman Egypt, Hecate appears under many names and titles, such as Phosphoros (bringer of light), Kleidoukhos (keeper of keys), Enodia (goddess of crossroads), and Chthonia(of the underworld).
