The cult of Hecate wasn’t limited to grand temples. She was believed to guard households, which is why offerings known as Hecate’s suppers (deipna Hekate) were made to her. These consisted of fish, eggs, onions, garlic, and honey cakes. They were left at doorsteps, especially during the new moon, to gain her protection and ward off evil spirits. One of the most important centers of her worship was the city of Lagina in Caria, where processions with keys—symbolizing her dominion over the thresholds between worlds—were held.
