Fun Fact:
The goddesses served as guardians of the underworld, where, in the service of Hades and Persephone, they oversaw eternal punishments inflicted upon souls condemned to torment. Their presence was inseparable from the darkest aspects of justice – relentless and eternal.
In some accounts, the Erinyes were identified with other personifications of vengeance and retribution. They were known by various names and were closely associated with the Poenae (representing punishment), Arae (symbolizing curses), Praxidikai (dispensers of justice), and Maniai (embodiments of madness). Their roles overlapped, creating an image of goddesses with many aspects, uniting terror and order.
