Did you know?
Celtic beliefs were exceptionally rich, even though we lack written sources from that era—Celts preferred oral traditions and storytelling by the fire over written records. Fortunately, the Roman poet Lucan mentioned Taranis in the 1st century CE, describing him as part of the "male triad" of the most powerful Celtic gods, alongside Teutates and Esus. According to Lucan, Taranis was equivalent to the Roman Jupiter, Teutates resembled Mars, and Esus was akin to Mercury.
