The origins of the Dullahan are shrouded in mystery, but many scholars suggest that this figure may have evolved from ancient Celtic beliefs—particularly from the cult of Crom Dubh, a god once worshipped by the early Érainn people.
Crom Dubh was associated with fertility and the harvest, but also embodied death and sacrifice. These traits are clearly echoed in the figure of the Dullahan, who likewise serves as a harbinger of death.
