What is the book about? One of the most important works devoted to Polish demonology.
The fascinating world of Slavic spirits and demons has inspired some of the brightest minds in scholarship for years. Dr. Leonard Pełka, a student of Bohdan Baranowski, spent many years of his life studying this intriguing subject. The result of his research is Polska Demonologia Ludowa. Wierzenia dawnych Słowian—a truly exceptional and timeless volume.
Cloud and hailstorm demons. Wind and whirlwind spirits. Household demons and forces of evil. Beings that harm new mothers, smother and drain blood. Demons of disease and death. Demons that gut livestock. Where did they come from? Why were they believed in? How did people fight them?
The author draws on folklore, fairy tales, and regional folk stories and sayings from across the country to paint a vivid picture of the world of Polish demons, devils, and semi-demonic creatures, as well as a host of fears, apparitions, and phantoms. He does so with scholarly rigor and the passion that radiates from every page of this work.
