Baldur was popular among the Aesir, and his good reputation was well-deserved. Handsome, intelligent, and well-mannered, he exuded star quality. Odin's second son was one of the good ones. As often happens in life – and rarely in fairy tales – the good often die young.

It so happened that both Baldur and his mother Frigg dreamed of the death that would suddenly take Odin's son from them. Understandably, Frigg was terrified and made all the gods and living beings promise not to harm her son. She only overlooked the most harmless of plants... mistletoe.

Thanks to his mother’s hard work and boundless love, Baldur became as invulnerable as a god made of steel. Of course, Loki discovered the loophole in the invisible armor of promises and jokingly fashioned a long arrow from mistletoe. When the opportunity arose, he brought it to a gathering where the gods were playing a new game called "Bounce things off SuperBaldur." What could go wrong?

Loki conceived it would be amusing to put the arrow in the hands of Baldur's blind half-brother, Hodur. Poor, unfortunate Hodur shot the mistletoe at Baldur. As a result, the gathering ended much earlier than planned.
