Fun Fact:
Odin was primarily wise. His wisdom stemmed from an obsessive desire to understand absolutely everything. He often made sacrifices, usually self-harming ones, to gain knowledge, as he believed it was worth any price. Never mind that he once hanged himself, was stabbed, and suffered the torture of hunger to discover and comprehend the runes. Perhaps an even better example of Odin's extreme thirst for knowledge—and the reason for his one-eyed appearance—was his journey to Mimir's well.
Those who managed to drink from it gained knowledge of everything. So, Odin once traveled to Mimir and asked for a sip. Mimir agreed to give him a little to drink, but required Odin's eye as the price for the potion. The highest of the Norse gods not only agreed to this payment but even took it upon himself to pluck out his own eye.
