If you find yourself lost in the marshes, the first thing you should fear is Rokita, who not only delighted in the squelching mud but was responsible for many cases of people falling into the swamp and disappearing forever. Rokita could deceive travelers and merchants, bewildering them with a charm of mist that obscured their path and led them astray. Unlike other devils, Rokita did not reside in hell and did not live particularly close to people, like Boruta, who hid in the undergrounds of the Royal Castle in Łęczyca.
Rokita chose an old willow for his lair, its branches hanging over the flowing water. The ancient tree, of which many can still be found in Polish villages, was anything but ordinary. The devil's hollow also served as a passage to another world.
Here is our vision of this devil. He resides in a willow but sometimes likes to visit a tavern... or two.
