Did you know there really was a Wawel Dragon?
We’re not talking about the metal fire-breathing statue with a gas pipe in its mouth – but an actual prehistoric creature.
The skeleton of the real *Smok wawelski* can be seen in the lobby of the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Biology.
It belonged to a large archosaur species that lived in what’s now Poland, specifically excavated near Lisowice. The species was scientifically named **Smok wawelski**.
Still… we prefer the fire-spewing beast version. Much more stylish.
