    Did you know?

In old Slavic beliefs, echoes of which still live on in folk tales, treasures were divided into two categories: cursed and blessed. The former were protected by powerful enchantments and often guarded by dark or supernatural forces. According to tradition, there existed an entire "army" of treasure guardians.

For example, Polewik guarded treasures hidden in the fields. He could appear as a chilling shadow, a scorching sun, or a human figure with wheat stalks instead of hair. He would scare off treasure hunters with wild laughter or torment them with echoing voices.

Leszy, the forest guardian, was known to take the form of an old man with a pale face and enormous, unblinking eyes. East of Poland, Kładnik guarded treasures buried in courtyards. He wore clothing and shoes made of gold and silver but was notoriously stingy—he kept bits of bread he had begged from people in a silver sack. If someone buried a treasure, Kładnik could drag both them and the treasure deep into the earth. Yet from time to time, he would show humans great mountains of gold and silver.

But in Silesia, where coal mines once outnumbered trees, the most iconic figure is the Skarbnik—the benevolent yet fearsome guardian of underground riches. And it is this legendary spirit we want to introduce to you with this design.
