Have you ever felt like someone was watching you while walking through the Krkonoše Mountains? It might be Liczyrzepa himself – a mysterious figure deeply rooted in the landscape of these mountains. But who exactly was this famous spirit? And what’s the story behind his strange name?

Liczyrzepa is none other than the Spirit of the Mountains, with a history tracing back to the times when the Slavs inhabited the Sudetes. Initially, he was meant to be the guardian of nature, protecting the treasures of the mountains, as well as being responsible for powerful and mysterious natural phenomena that were incomprehensible to humans. However, as time passed and new inhabitants from various corners of Europe arrived, his figure underwent some "modifications." The Spirit of the Mountains acquired many names, and in different regions, he was known as Rübezahl (in Germany) or Krakonoš (in the Czech Republic). We Poles know him as Liczyrzepa.
