Did You Know:

In the 10th century, a giant statue of Mokosh was erected in Kyiv, as recorded in chronicles. Christianity gradually pushed Mokosh out of human minds, but traces of her still exist today. In Slovenia, her name is preserved in a village called Mokosze. Traveling south along the Adriatic Sea, near Dubrovnik, you can also find another village with the same name. A bit to the north, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is a village named Mukoševo and a hill called Mukoš. Furthermore, in nearby Czechia, you may come across Mokošín, a small village west of Pardubice and south of the town of Přelouč, amidst fertile fields in Polabí. If you ever visit, be sure to explore the wooded, somewhat forgotten hill. You will find an old wooden sculpture there. It is none other than the goddess Mokosh. As for the Polish Mokoszyn? It also derives from her name, in this case, from the original owner of a single-homestead settlement, as in more recent times the name Mokosz – Mokosza or Mokosza – Mokoszy was quite common.
