Interesting Fact:

Unlike male water spirits, their female counterparts were more aesthetically pleasing and perhaps, due to their enchanting powers, could lure men closer. The topielice appeared as young girls bathing in shallow waters, inviting unsuspecting strangers for a swim. They could also pretend to be damsels in distress, swept away by the swift current and calling for help. They had many methods to draw men closer to the shore and into the water. In contrast, male water spirits preferred to seize their victims using brute force to deprive them of breath. The topielice operated more subtly, although the end result was the same. The unfortunate soul caught in their embrace quickly lost the will to fight and ultimately their life, entranced by the gentle movements, with their gaze lost in the deep black eyes of the topielica.
